(CN) - Francis Ford Coppola Winery illegally packages its wine in a patented laminated paperboard box, according to a patent lawsuit in federal court in Florida.
Director Francis Ford Coppola runs a winery in California's Napa Valley which, among other things, sells canned sparkling wine in a four-pack box.
A company called Lamina Packaging Innovations owns the patent for a "Laminated Package with Enhanced Interior and Exterior," invented by Roger P. Hoffman (not a plaintiff).
Lamina claims Francis Ford Coppola Winery's four-pack of sparkling wine comes in a box that infringes on its patent.
The defendants are Francis Ford Coppola Presents and Francis Ford Coppola Winery.
Lamina is represented by Brian Gilchrist of Allen, Dyer, Doppelt Milbrath & Gilchrist in Orlando, Fla.
